Mirror Mirror on the Vinylmation...

Whilst blind boxing I happened to get the clear series chaser and this pink one, anyone that knows me will know that I have a particular disdain for the colour pink so I decided to change it up into something a bit less pink. At first I tried staining it purple, not so much luck with even coverage so I decided to turn it into the magic mirror from Snow white. I actually giggled later on when Disney came out with their version, their's didn't have a big dent in the head, I think it makes mine a little more kooky and original hehe.

Stitch's Boojiboo

Otherwise known as Angel, Experiment 624, Stitch's girlfriend. We're on a roll here with characters from the lilo and stitch movies as you can see ;)

As Stitch would say "Nice pipe's"

"Thursday is sandwich day!"

Dance Instructor: Stop, stop. Lilo, why are you all wet?
Lilo: It's sandwich day. (sighs) Every Thursday I take Pudge the fish a peanut butter sandwich.
Dance Instructor: Pudge is a fish...?
Lilo: (continues) And today we were out of peanut butter. So I asked my sister what to give him and she said a tuna sandwich! I can't give Pudge tuna! (whispers) Do you know what tuna is?
Dance Instructor: Fish?
Lilo: (yells) It's FISH! If I gave Pudge tuna, I'd be an abomination. I'm late because I had to go to the store, and get peanut butter, 'cause all we have, (screaming frantically as she jumps up and down) IS-IS STINKIN' TUNA!
Dance Instructor: Lilo. Why is this so important?
Lilo: (seriously) Pudge controls the weather.

This was a tricky and fun custom to make, tricky because I had to have a lot of patience for the paint that didn't want to adhere to the vinyl, but every time I got anywhere near frustrated with it not going right it became fun because I would think of the above quote from the movie Lilo and Stitch. I'd even call it an abomination if it got to be really annoyingly slippery LOL.

Hungry hungry trees

So my hubby and I call the Haunted Mansion trees at Disneyland the Hungry hungry trees (the ones on the descent into the graveyard scene). they were the perfect thing to base my thirteenth custom on!

Also a second Ooogie Boogie for a commission :)

Ok so I will give you a little peek at how I textured him...

'Twas the nightmare before...

Christmas! Number twelve was a gift for my hubby, after messing around with glow in the dark paint, I decided that I would test pattern making on a viunylmation. I had a lot of fun and very green hands after painting this one but I and most importantly Paul loved it!

I present to you Mr Ooogie Boogie

He glows in the dark too in case I forgot to mention, and the textured pattern shows up quite well, I shall have to either hunt for the pictures of him glowing or have to take some new ones at some point

Into double digits!

I know it's such a small milestone but it was the perfect time to create a keepsake of how I met my hubby. Now this may seem really lame to some but we met playing a Disney game called "Virtual Magic Kingdom" or VMK for short (it was a virtual Disney park) . Well we actually met on a forum for the game and talked on there for the better part of a year before a vacation brought me from Essex, England to Anaheim, California! Paul offered to pick me up from the airport to my hotel/Disneyland. I wont bore you with our trials and tribulations with Immigration other than I know customs in LAX all too well (hey my hubby works upstairs in TIBIT so I know the rest of the airport and not just Tom Bradley Intl terminal LOL).

Anyway getting back to the customs, I painted mementos of our in game characters TheAlienStitch (Paul's main character) and BooLani (my main character). The game sadly closed in 2008 so these were the perfect reminders of a game that was loved by many.

January 2010, my first commission!

I will always remember this month as the one that changed how I looked at my art, a close friend asked me to create a vinylmation for their son who is a huge Darkwing Duck fan, it was an honour to complete this piece and I took what I had learnt from painting Perry and used it to perfect the duck bill and the eyes. I will forever love this custom, whenever I see it pop up on our desktop photo widget, it makes me smile and gives me a little confidence boost if I'm having difficulties with a custom I'm working on.

I know what we're going to do today!

Of course customs seven and eight had to be Phineas and Ferb!
I still have deigns for the rest of the characters, maybe someday I will get around to them and compare to the series Disney later put out.

How very Unexpected of you...

And by that I mean how completely expected!
Customs five and six came after a marathon of Phineas and Ferb on the Disney channel (I'm easily influenced by my hubby wanting to watch them), But really I do like the show and I adore Perry the platypus! So I had to make him and Dr.Doofenshmirtz, Dr.D likes to use my blank army to hold Agent P hostage.. uh oh!

And Sunset 1...2....3.....

My fourth custom vinylmation had to be Lilo, poor stitch looked lonely without his best pal Lilo!

The tale of Tatty Teddy

Aka Custom number three. This custom has a special place in my heart, it reminds me of my Mum and of home. I'm from England originally, I moved here 4 years ago to marry my hubby and start our lives together for good. But in the year before I moved here, I would come out to LA to visit Paul, each time I would bring over a few of my things to make myself feel at home. Some of those things were these 'Tatty Teddies" called "Me To You" bears by Carte Blance. My Mum would buy me ones here and there especially on my birthdays and for Christmas and I have quite a collection of them now.

My Beefeater one has to be one of my favourites as it reminds me of London!
Now after bringing my masses (ok not quite that many) of bears to California, I decided that my third vinyl custom had to be a tatty teddy. Painting all those little lines for his fur definitely was taxing on my eyes but I loved how he came out.

My trial and error with Stitch

My second Vinylmation had to be my hubby's favourite Disney Character, Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. with him it was the first time I had played around with sealers since my art classes in school. Lets just say that I learnt that it's best not to drop vinyls after sealing them, especially if the ground is covered in dirt and gravel! Anyway he got remade after that and apart frm him being darker than I had wanted he put a smile on my hubby's face and that's all that really mattered to me at the time.

Finally Found time to make a blog

After three years of creating custom Vinylmations, I finally got around to sorting out a blogger profile! I'll be slowly going through and posting all of my previous customs and maybe some hints as to what I'm currently working on.

First up is a post about my very first custom and how I got into customizing Vinylmations.

It all started with Mike Mouse from the Vinylmation Park 2 series by Disney, he was the very first blind box I bought and just happened to be the one I wanted most (being a huge Monsters Inc. fan and all). Not knowing much about Vinylmations at the time, My hubby and I pondered the idea of buying one of the blank vinyls they had in clear bags to make my own Boo from the same pixar movie. It was all downhill after that and I became hooked on not just the series vinyls that were released at Disneyland, but in creating my own too!
