A little of a British Christmas tradition

This was a custom for the Holiday custom swap on a forum, I decided that I would recreate a Christmas staple for dessert during a Christmas dinner in England, a Christmas Pudding! And guess who decided to sport a costume to represent this Delicious dish? Yup, Mickey Mouse of course...

He had to be topped off with a bit of cream on his head with some holly berries and leaves that I had sculpted.

Another for 1Rocky!

1Rocky also commissioned me to create this Nurse Minnie for her Daughter who was at the time just completing her training, I also had the honour of meeting up with 1Rocky whilst she visited California from Australia to hand deliver both Sarcophagus  mickey and nurse Minnie, who I also took some time to carefully sew a nurses cape for :)

Sarcophagus Mickey

My second 9" custom and boy was it a treat to make! I had been commissioned by one of the forum members 1Rocky all the way from Australia to make a Sarcophagus Mickey, I must have researched Sarcophagus so many times that I could spell it out without thinking and I'm pretty sure I had dreams about it too lol. I took the 9" and gave him a good wrapping in dyed compression bandages and then a layer of crepe bandages that I hand painted and tore up to give him an aged look. I had to give him a creepy face too hehe. For the Sarcophagus, I buried poor mummy mickey in a layer of Mod-roc over some well sealed plastic so that it fit him and only him ;-). I adored painting the front of the Sarcophagus, it took me back to my school history lessons where we learnt about the Egyptians.

No Mummy can be complete without it's baby mummy mickey and he was the perfect addition to the set!

Cake toppers!

I was honoured with the opportunity to make this set of Bride and Groom Minnie and Mickey wedding cake toppers, The Groom commissioned me to create them and his fianceƩ covertly sent me pictures of her dress so that I could sculpt minnie's dress to look as close as I could get. I have to say it was the most fun I had whilst sculpting!

I cant believe that these were made back in 2010, it still only seems like it was only a few months ago. Congrats again to the happy couple!

In the laboratory

My first 9" custom vinylmation creation! This was for a forum member who wanted to surprise her daughter for Christmas with a caricature and lab set combo. I loved working on the bigger form and thanks to Evilos for a few great tips on removing the arms and head and getting them reattached, it was a breeze working with the 9" vinylmation. I enjoyed making the 3" chem lab piece, I even snuck a little hidden mickey onto it ;)

hot weather equals melty vinyls

A lesson learnt, the sealer I had used does not like hot weather, it cracked on some and melted all stickily on another. Warning, do not leave customs in hot cars ;-)

New Host_Lily head after her poor ear cracked and new Evoulie after he melted and a Gift of a second Host_Lily for Madison to keep PrincessMadiro (previously posted) company!

An honour to make.

It really was, I was taken aback when Evilos (Chris Avalos) of Evilos.com commissioned me to paint a custom of Howard Hughes for him. trying to not be all nerdy but it really is a wonderful moment when an established vinylmation and urban artist asks you for a custom :). It was also my 40th Custom!

Ding dong the bells are going to chime

Ok, well seeing as these were for my hubby and myself, the bells have already chimed! But I wanted to see if I could make a wedding set. So Paul and I became Caricatures for this purpose. Coincidentally I made them just before our honeymoon which we decided to take later on way, way after our wedding, so these two came along to Florida and to Walt Disney World!

Lava Boy

Ok the nickname fits, his feathers are hot! hehe this was another VMK commission, this time for Aengus, I had a lot of fun painting and cutting up tiny itty bitty feathers for his headdress. I do wonder if Disney ever saw the potential they could have reaped if they had kept the game alive, I could see mix and match sets just like robots 2 but with VMK costumes...

A princess with a cause

This custom was for a friend that Paul and I met through other VMK player friends, This is Madison Reed a wonderful, loving and happy 15 year old who also played VMK as PrincessMariro. She's not just any old normal 15 year old though, she is a miracle and is an amazingly passionate young lady. And what is so amazing about Madison you ask? Madison has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (Sma type 1), but she doesn't let it phase her, She takes everyday as a gift she cherishes every moment and memory she makes and she has a love for a certain boyband (Big time rush) :-D

What is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)?
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is the number 1 genetic killer of children under 2 years of age. It can strike a person anytime throughout their life - infant, toddler, teen or adult.
It is a group of inherited and sometimes fatal diseases that destroy the nerve cells (motor neurons) controlling voluntary movement, such as, crawling, walking, head and neck control, as well as swallowing and breathing. It affects the anterior horn cells located in the spine.

Facts About SMA

  • 1 in 40 people are carriers of the SMA gene.
  • 1 in every 6,000 live births is affected.
  • Over 25,000 people in the USA have SMA
  • SMA does not discriminate when it comes to sex, age, race or ethnic background.
  • Both parents must carry the SMA gene.
  • There is a 1 in 4 chance of having a child with SMA.
  • There is a 50% chance of having a child who carries the gene.

There are 4 types of SMA:
  • TYPE 1 (WERDNIG-HOFFMAN): Infantile; Most Fatal
  • TYPE 2: Strikes between 9 - 18 months
  • TYPE 3 & 4: Can strike at any time between 18 months to teen years to adult years

Please take a moment to check out Madison's site and learn some more about this genetic disease and learn about how to donate towards research that could potentially save lots of babies in the future, they are so close to a cure but it can't happen without funding! http://www.miracleformadison.org/journey.htm

Where is your Paperwork??

Up next in my Monsters Inc. customs comes Roz, infamous for hounding Mike for paperwork and being an all round grouch! complete with foam and beaded glasses and sculpted hair, clipboard and pencil. She rounds out as being  my 30th custom wheeeeee!

Oh scmoopsie poo!

That's right after making little Mikey, my attention returned to my Monsters Inc. list of customs, here is Celia, I sculpted her snakes with sculpey and feel I have much improved on this custom in the subsequent commissions I had for her :) I like to keep her as my original, it reminds me of where I started out with her.

The address every little kid and adult that's a kid at heart should know.

P Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney. NSW
Of course I'm talking about the movie Finding Nemo! my third time tackling the slipperiness of the clear vinylmations, I loved the challenge of this one although in hindsight I wish I could have a do over as much as I like to keep it as is, it does remind me of my progression now but I feel I could have done so much better with the character representation. Maybe I'll add it to my long list of someday I'll redo this or continue with my ideas list (I have a few pages in my book full of sketches and lists lol
